Who Square Appointments is for
Square is a payments company, and Appointments is the booking product inside its stack: the same account runs the card reader, the point of sale, invoices, payroll and marketing. The pricing page pitches the tiers at solo professionals, growing teams and larger businesses with complex staff management, and the consumer app, Square Go, lists businesses Square describes as beauty and personal care. An account can be opened in eight countries — the United States, Canada, Australia, Japan, the United Kingdom, Ireland, France and Spain — and cards are processed only from the country of sign-up.
Bookodile is narrower on purpose. It is for a business where the people are not interchangeable, where a room or a piece of equipment is the real bottleneck, and where one visit can involve two people. It does not take payments, and it runs anywhere, in English, Slovak, Czech or Vietnamese. Those are the rows on this page where the two products differ most.
The pricing model, in practice
Square charges per location, per month, and never per person: 'there is no employee limit' on any tier. In the United States, Square Free is $0, Square Plus is $49 and Square Premium is $149, each per location, with a custom Square Pro for businesses processing over $250,000 a year. Free is one location only. On Plus and Premium every extra location pays the plan fee again, and each of the two carries a 30-day trial. Moving to these plans is one-way — Square says you cannot switch back to a prior subscription.
Processing fees are the other half of the bill, and they apply on Free too: in the United States 2.6% + 15¢ in person and 3.3% + 30¢ online, lower on Plus and Premium. Each country publishes its own rates.
The regional pages have not moved to the US plans. On 2026-09-09 the United Kingdom still sold Square Appointments Plus and Premium at £29 and £69 per location, Ireland, France and Spain at €19 and €49 plus VAT, Canada at CA$35 and CA$85 and Australia at A$40 and A$90 — and third-party pages still print the older US prices of $29 and $69. Read the page for your country.
Bookodile charges per location plus per booking spot that actually took a booking that month. People who take no bookings are not counted, and five people sharing one spot are one spot. The figures for your country are on the pricing page and the model is explained in What Bookodile costs.
Be honest with yourself about which is cheaper for you. A team of any size at one location that wants what Square Free includes pays nothing on Square, and may pay on Bookodile. The case for Bookodile is what the rows describe, not the bill.
Two services, two people
Square calls this multi-staff appointment booking, and it needs Plus or Premium; on Free, staff can still build such an appointment by hand, but customers cannot book one online. The switch is Allow multiple staff to be booked in a single appointment, and Square describes the result as booking 'different services with different staff, in a single appointment'. On the team's side each service is added to the appointment and its team member is chosen per service; 'assigned services will show up on that staff member's calendar', and a tip is split across the people in proportion to what each service cost.
What the help centre does not say is whether the services are placed back to back or at the same time, whether each person's calendar is blocked only for their own service or for the whole visit, and whether the online flow shows a separate team-member picker per service. Reserve with Google bookings cannot contain more than one service at all. This page does not guess.
In Bookodile the same thing is a combo service: one service with one person and a second with another, as stages of one booking. Each stage carries its own team member, its own duration and its own room if it needs one, and each person is blocked only for their stage. The customer books once and receives one confirmation.
Switching from Square Appointments
- Customers. Square's directory documents a spreadsheet import; its export format is not confirmed on its pages, so check before you rely on it. Bookodile has no import tool yet; customers are created the first time they book, and your team can add anyone by hand.
- Bookings. Square exports appointment history as CSV. Bookodile does not import bookings; run the two side by side until the Square calendar empties out, then switch the link.
- Your booking link. Every place the old link lives — Google Business profile, Instagram bio, your website, the Square Online site — gets the new one. Bookodile generates a QR code for the counter.
- Reserve with Google, Instagram, Facebook and Square Go. These are Square integrations; Bookodile has no equivalent. Your Google profile can still carry the booking link as its website or appointment link.
- Payments, cards on file, gift cards and packages. These live in Square and stay there. Square documents exporting cards on file to another processor on request. Bookodile records payments; it does not take them, and it has no packages — its gift vouchers are ones you issue.
- Contracts. Square's e-signed contracts have no counterpart; Bookodile has a consent checkbox in your own wording.
Where each one fits
Choose Square Appointments if you want card payments, deposits and no-show fees inside the booking, a point of sale on the same account, a free plan for a team of any size at one location, customers who confirm by replying to a text, or a native app — and you are in one of its eight countries.
Choose Bookodile if your people are priced or timed differently, if a room or a piece of equipment limits what you can take, if one visit can involve two people, if your team needs to see the business's time zone rather than their own, if your customers read Slovak, Czech or Vietnamese, or if Square does not open accounts where you are.
