# Bookodile vs Square Appointments

> Square Appointments is the booking product inside Square's payments stack — free at one location with unlimited staff, card processing on every plan. Bookodile is built for a business whose people, rooms and prices differ, with every feature on every account, and it does not take payments.

## [What Square Appointments charges](https://bookodile.com/compare/bookodile-vs-square-appointments#pricing)

Per location, per month, and never per person — 'there is no employee limit' on any tier. In the United States the plans are Square Free at $0, Square Plus at $49 and Square Premium at $149 per location, with a custom Square Pro for businesses processing over $250,000 a year; Plus and Premium each carry a 30-day free trial. Free is one location only, and on Plus and Premium every extra location pays the full plan fee again. Processing fees are the other half of the bill and apply on Free too. Square's own pages disagree by region: the UK, Irish, French, Spanish, Canadian and Australian pages still sell 'Square Appointments' Free, Plus and Premium at lower per-location prices — £29 and £69 in the UK, €19 and €49 plus VAT in Ireland, France and Spain, CA$35 and CA$85 in Canada, A$40 and A$90 in Australia — and third-party pages still print the older US prices of $29 and $69. Read the page for your country, and note that moving to the new Square Free, Plus and Premium plans is one-way: Square says you cannot switch back to a prior subscription.

## What Bookodile charges

A base rate per location plus a rate per booking spot that actually took a booking that month, in country bands. Every feature and add-on is included at every price, there is no commission, and it is free at one location with up to two active spots and 40 bookings a month. The figures live on one page so they cannot drift: https://bookodile.com/pricing — and the model is explained at https://bookodile.com/docs/what-bookodile-costs.

## [Why businesses switch from Square Appointments](https://bookodile.com/compare/bookodile-vs-square-appointments#why-switch)

- **[Two people, one visit, each blocked only for their part](https://bookodile.com/compare/bookodile-vs-square-appointments#reason-two-people-one-visit-each-blocked-only-for-their-part)** — Square's multi-staff booking, on Plus and Premium, assigns each service in an appointment to its own team member and puts it on that person's calendar; its help centre does not say whether the services run back to back or whether each person is blocked only for their own service. A Bookodile combo gives each stage its own team member, its own duration and its own room, booked back to back, and each person is blocked only for their stage.
- **[A price and a duration per person, not a variation per person](https://bookodile.com/compare/bookodile-vs-square-appointments#reason-a-price-and-a-duration-per-person-not-a-variation-per-person)** — Square has no price or duration field on a team member. To charge or time a service differently per person you create a variation of the service with its own price, its own duration and its own list of who performs it. Bookodile prices and times a service per team member or per category such as Junior and Senior, and the customer sees which is which.
- **[Every feature on every account, including a free one](https://bookodile.com/compare/bookodile-vs-square-appointments#reason-every-feature-on-every-account-including-a-free-one)** — On Square, multi-staff booking, the waitlist, classes, buffer time, no-show fees, confirmations and Google Calendar sync sit on Plus, and rooms and equipment, the team performance report and 24/7 phone support sit on Premium; moving to the new plans is one-way. Bookodile has no plans: every account, free or paid, has every feature and every add-on.
- **[Rooms and equipment with a capacity, on any account](https://bookodile.com/compare/bookodile-vs-square-appointments#reason-rooms-and-equipment-with-a-capacity-on-any-account)** — Square's resource management is Premium only, reserves one resource per booking, and does not document a capacity above one or a booking with no person attached. In Bookodile a service can need a room alone, a person alone, or both, with a capacity that is enforced when the booking is made, and it is included at every price.
- **[The business's time zone on the team's screen too](https://bookodile.com/compare/bookodile-vs-square-appointments#reason-the-businesss-time-zone-on-the-teams-screen-too)** — Square's booking site can be locked to the business's time zone, but the team's calendar 'will reflect the time zone of the device you are using'. Bookodile shows every time in the business's own zone, on the dashboard as much as on the booking page, and a customer in another zone sees both clocks before confirming.
- **[Available where Square is not, in your customers' language](https://bookodile.com/compare/bookodile-vs-square-appointments#reason-available-where-square-is-not-in-your-customers-language)** — A Square account can be opened in eight countries — the United States, Canada, Australia, Japan, the United Kingdom, Ireland, France and Spain — and the product runs in English, French, Spanish, Catalan and Japanese. Bookodile's booking page is in English, Slovak, Czech or Vietnamese, set per business and separately from the language you read the dashboard in.

Nothing is charged until you take a payment, and then only the processing fee. [source](https://squareup.com/us/en/appointments/pricing) |
| [No commission on bookings](https://bookodile.com/compare/bookodile-vs-square-appointments#no-commission) | **Yes** — No commission, no new-client fee, no per-booking charge. The bill is the subscription and nothing else. | **Yes** — No cut of a booking and no marketplace fee — 'you only pay processing fees when you take a payment'. The Square Go listing is free and takes no payments at all. [source](https://squareup.com/us/en/appointments/pricing) |
| [Every feature included](https://bookodile.com/compare/bookodile-vs-square-appointments#everything-included) | **Yes** — Every add-on is free and included — reminders, reviews, vouchers, the waiting list, multi-location, forecasting. Nothing is sold separately. | **No** — Text marketing beyond the bundle costs 3¢ a message on Plus and 1.5¢ on Premium; Payroll is a separate product at $35 a month plus $6 per person paid; gift cards carry a 2.5% load fee below Premium; the Kiosk and KDS apps are charged per device; and every extra location pays the plan fee again. [source](https://squareup.com/us/en/appointments/pricing) |
| [The same features on every plan](https://bookodile.com/compare/bookodile-vs-square-appointments#no-plan-gating) | **Yes** — There are no plans and no tiers. Every account, including a free one, has every feature. | **No** — Plus holds multi-staff booking, processing time, the cancellation policy and no-show fees, classes and packages, the waitlist, confirmations, custom text notifications, Google Calendar sync, a daily booking limit, custom permission sets, marketing and loyalty. Premium holds resource management, the team performance and future bookings reports, service cost tracking, the 0% gift-card load and 24/7 phone support. [source](https://squareup.com/us/en/appointments/pricing) |
| [No minimum term or cancellation fee](https://bookodile.com/compare/bookodile-vs-square-appointments#no-contract) | **Yes** — Monthly, no minimum term, no cancellation fee. Paying yearly is optional and costs ten months. | **Yes** — Billed monthly or annually, and you can 'cancel or switch plans anytime'. A downgrade takes effect at the next billing cycle, and moving to the new Square Free, Plus and Premium plans is one-way. Whether annual billing is discounted, and what is refunded, are not published. [source](https://squareup.com/help/us/en/article/6383-manage-your-appointments-subscription) |
| [Processes your customers' card payments](https://bookodile.com/compare/bookodile-vs-square-appointments#payment-processing) | **No** — Bookodile does not take your customers' money. The payment-tracking add-on records what you were paid; payment stays between you and the customer. | **Yes** — Square is the processor. In the US: 2.6% + 15¢ in person on Free, 2.5% + 15¢ on Plus and 2.4% + 15¢ on Premium; 3.3% + 30¢ online on Free and 2.9% + 30¢ above it; 3.5% + 15¢ keyed in or card on file. The UK and Irish pages publish their own rates, 1.75% in person on both. No way to use another processor is documented. [source](https://squareup.com/us/en/appointments/pricing) |

### [Taking bookings](https://bookodile.com/compare/bookodile-vs-square-appointments#group-booking)

| | Bookodile | Square Appointments |
|---|---|---|
| [A hosted booking page](https://bookodile.com/compare/bookodile-vs-square-appointments#hosted-booking-page) | **Yes** — bookodile.com/book/your-business, with your logo, colour, services and hours. One page per location. | **Yes** — A booking site on every plan, including Free, with a link to share. It can also be a page on a Square Online website. [source](https://squareup.com/help/us/en/article/5355-set-up-online-booking-with-square-appointments) |
| [Booking on your own website](https://bookodile.com/compare/bookodile-vs-square-appointments#embed-widget) | **Yes** — One snippet embeds the whole flow in any site — WordPress, Wix, Squarespace or hand-built — inline or behind a Book-now button. A QR code is generated for print. | **Yes** — A Book Now button as HTML to paste, an HTML widget, and 'advanced widgets' pre-filtered to a team member or a service, plus a native booking page inside Square Online. No website-builder restriction is documented. [source](https://squareup.com/help/us/en/article/5355-set-up-online-booking-with-square-appointments) |
| [Customers book without an account or an app](https://bookodile.com/compare/bookodile-vs-square-appointments#guest-booking) | **Yes** — A name plus an email or a phone number. No account, no app, no password. A web portal shows customers every booking they hold, if they want it. | **Partly** — No password and no app, but the flow asks for a mobile number, sends a security code by text, and creates a customer account automatically from it. [source](https://squareup.com/help/us/en/article/6439-manage-your-client-profile-with-square-appointments) |
| [Several services in one booking](https://bookodile.com/compare/bookodile-vs-square-appointments#multi-service-booking) | **Partly** — Combo services chain stages into one booking, and the extras you configure are offered during booking, in more than one round. Customers do not pick arbitrary pairs from the catalogue — you decide which combinations exist. | **Yes** — A switch, 'Allow multiple services to be booked online', lets a customer put several services into one appointment. The settings article does not mark it as plan-gated, unlike the multi-staff switch beside it. [source](https://squareup.com/help/us/en/article/5351-manage-your-square-appointments-account-settings) |
| [Back-to-back services with different team members](https://bookodile.com/compare/bookodile-vs-square-appointments#multi-staff-sequential) | **Yes** — Each stage of a combo can have its own team member, its own duration and its own room, booked back to back. Each person is blocked only for their own stage, never for the whole visit. Staff move the whole visit in one step, at times that fit every person in it. | **Partly** — 'Multi-staff appointment booking' on Plus and Premium: one appointment, several services, each assigned to its own team member and shown on that person's calendar. The help centre does not say whether the services run back to back or whether each person is blocked only for their own service. Reserve with Google bookings cannot hold more than one service. [source](https://squareup.com/help/us/en/article/7238-multi-staff-appointment-staff-scheduling) |
| [Rooms, chairs and equipment as bookable resources](https://bookodile.com/compare/bookodile-vs-square-appointments#resources) | **Yes** — Rooms, chairs and equipment with a capacity and their own hours. A service can need a resource alone, a person alone, or both, and capacity is enforced when the booking is made. | **Extra cost** — Premium only. Rooms, stations, equipment or chairs are attached to a service and one is reserved automatically per booking; a resource belongs to one location. A capacity above one, and a booking with a resource but no person, are not documented. [source](https://squareup.com/help/us/en/article/7065-square-appointments-resource-management) |
| [Classes and events with a capacity](https://bookodile.com/compare/bookodile-vs-square-appointments#group-classes) | **Yes** — Events with a capacity and a registration list for one-off things; a recurring class is a service on a resource with a capacity, so it fills up and stops. | **Yes** — On Plus and Premium: classes with a set number of spots, an instructor, a recurring schedule and online booking. No waitlist for classes, the date and time of a recurring series cannot be edited, and changing a class's time, location or duration cancels and refunds every existing booking. Not bookable through Reserve with Google or Facebook. [source](https://squareup.com/help/us/en/article/7991-class-booking-with-square-appointments) |
| [A different price per team member](https://bookodile.com/compare/bookodile-vs-square-appointments#per-staff-pricing) | **Yes** — A service can be priced per team member, or per category such as Junior and Senior, and the customer sees which is which. | **Partly** — No price per team member as such. A service can have variations, each with its own price and its own list of who can perform it, which reaches the same result by hand. [source](https://squareup.com/help/us/en/article/6487-create-a-service-from-the-square-appointments-app) |
| [A different duration per team member](https://bookodile.com/compare/bookodile-vs-square-appointments#per-staff-duration) | **Yes** — A service can take a different time per team member. Leave someone blank and they use the service's own duration. | **Partly** — The same mechanism: a variation carries its own duration and its own team members. There is no duration field on the person. [source](https://squareup.com/help/us/en/article/6487-create-a-service-from-the-square-appointments-app) |
| [Buffer time that blocks the calendar](https://bookodile.com/compare/bookodile-vs-square-appointments#buffer-time) | **Yes** — A buffer after every service blocks the person and any resource it used. Enforced on the booking page and in the booking API. | **Yes** — 'Block extra time after appointment' per service, on Plus and Premium but not Free. Separately, 'processing time' splits a service so another customer can be booked into the gap. No buffer before a service is documented. [source](https://squareup.com/help/us/en/article/6487-create-a-service-from-the-square-appointments-app) |
| [A waiting list with automatic offers](https://bookodile.com/compare/bookodile-vs-square-appointments#waitlist) | **Yes** — A cancellation is offered automatically to whoever has waited longest for that service, with a three-hour countdown. Confirming books them straight in. | **Partly** — On Plus and Premium. Customers join from the booking site or are added by staff, and an optional setting notifies them when an opening appears, at most once every six hours. The channel of that notification, and whether the customer can take the slot from it, are not documented. Not available for classes. [source](https://squareup.com/help/us/en/article/7923-waitlist-with-square-appointments) |
| [Recurring bookings](https://bookodile.com/compare/bookodile-vs-square-appointments#recurring-bookings) | **Partly** — Your team can create a repeating series from the calendar — weekly, every two weeks or monthly, up to 52 visits. Customers cannot book a recurring appointment themselves. | **Yes** — Repeat appointments on every plan, created from the calendar; each repeat initially carries the price of the first booking. Whether a customer can book a repeating series online is not stated. [source](https://squareup.com/help/us/en/article/5349-schedule-and-accept-appointments) |
| [Booking rules](https://bookodile.com/compare/bookodile-vs-square-appointments#booking-rules) | **Yes** — Minimum notice, maximum advance days, slot interval, auto-confirm or approval, and a cancellation window — one set of rules per business. | **Yes** — Minimum notice from one hour to four weeks, advance booking from seven to 365 days, auto-accept or approve by hand, slot spacing by service length or 10, 15, 20 or 30 minutes, a cancellation cut-off from one hour to two weeks, and a filter that hides 25, 40 or 50% of open times. A daily booking cap needs Plus. [source](https://squareup.com/help/us/en/article/5351-manage-your-square-appointments-account-settings) |
| [Customers cancel or reschedule themselves](https://bookodile.com/compare/bookodile-vs-square-appointments#self-service-cancel-reschedule) | **Partly** — Customers cancel from the confirmation email, outside your cancellation window. Rescheduling is cancel and book again; there is no one-step move. | **Partly** — A switch lets customers reschedule or cancel before the cut-off, but it is documented inside the cancellation-policy article written for Plus and Premium. Prepaid appointments cannot be cancelled by the customer, and bookings made through Reserve with Google are changed from Google. [source](https://squareup.com/help/us/en/article/5493-set-a-custom-cancellation-policy-with-square-appointments) |
| [Deposits and no-show protection](https://bookodile.com/compare/bookodile-vs-square-appointments#deposits-no-show) | **No** — No card on file and no deposits, because Bookodile does not process payments. A no-show is recorded on the customer, not charged. | **Yes** — On Plus and Premium per the help centre: no requirement, full prepayment, or a card held for a no-show fee that is flat or a percentage of the service and chargeable up to 14 days after; deposits can be set per service. The US pricing page lists 'appointment deposits' under Free while the cancellation policy sits under Plus — the two pages disagree. [source](https://squareup.com/help/us/en/article/5493-set-a-custom-cancellation-policy-with-square-appointments) |
| [Extras offered while booking](https://bookodile.com/compare/bookodile-vs-square-appointments#upsells) | **Yes** — Extras are offered while booking, per service or per category, in up to several rounds, with an optional discount for adding them. | **Yes** — Modifiers attached to a service appear as add-ons during online booking, optional or required, each with its own price and extra duration. [source](https://squareup.com/help/us/en/article/6487-create-a-service-from-the-square-appointments-app) |

### [What customers see](https://bookodile.com/compare/bookodile-vs-square-appointments#group-customers)

| | Bookodile | Square Appointments |
|---|---|---|
| [Listed in a consumer marketplace](https://bookodile.com/compare/bookodile-vs-square-appointments#marketplace) | **No** — No marketplace. Your booking page carries only your business, and no competitor is shown beside you — which also means it sends you no new customers. | **Partly** — Square Go, a free consumer app for the United States only, where customers find, book and rebook businesses Square describes as 'beauty and personal care'. The listing is optional, and no payment goes through it. [source](https://squareup.com/help/us/en/article/8025-get-started-with-square-go) |
| [An app for customers](https://bookodile.com/compare/bookodile-vs-square-appointments#customer-app) | **No** — No consumer app. Customers book in the browser, and a web portal lists every booking they hold with any Bookodile business. | **Yes** — Square Go, in the United States. Elsewhere customers use the web booking site with a phone-verified customer account. [source](https://squareup.com/help/us/en/article/8025-get-started-with-square-go) |
| [Booking page languages](https://bookodile.com/compare/bookodile-vs-square-appointments#languages) | **Yes** — English, Slovak, Czech and Vietnamese, set per business. What your customers read and what you read in the dashboard are separate settings. | **Partly** — The app lists English, Catalan, French, Japanese and Spanish, and notifications go out in the business's preferred language. Slovak, Czech, Vietnamese and German are not offered. [source](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/square-appointments-scheduler/id1023050786) |
| [Your business's time zone, shown correctly](https://bookodile.com/compare/bookodile-vs-square-appointments#timezones) | **Yes** — Every time is shown in the business's own zone, including on your dashboard. A customer in another zone sees both clocks before they confirm. | **Partly** — The booking site can let the customer pick a time zone or be locked to the business's. The team's calendar 'will reflect the time zone of the device you are using', not the business's. [source](https://squareup.com/help/us/en/article/8447-troubleshoot-customer-appointment-communications) |
| [Branding](https://bookodile.com/compare/bookodile-vs-square-appointments#branding) | **Partly** — Your logo, a second logo for dark backgrounds, a logo that links back to your own website, your brand colour with a contrast check, and a banner strip. No custom CSS and no custom domain. | **Partly** — Button colour, text, shape and font; site layout, fonts and colours; a logo through Square Online. A custom domain and custom code need a paid Square Online or Square plan. Whether 'Powered by Square' can be removed is not documented. [source](https://squareup.com/help/us/en/article/7243-customize-your-square-online-booking-site) |
| [Dark mode on the booking page](https://bookodile.com/compare/bookodile-vs-square-appointments#dark-mode) | **Yes** — The hosted page follows the customer's device. The embedded widget stays light on purpose, so it matches the website it sits in. | **Not published** — Dark mode arrived in August 2026 for the team's app. Nothing published says whether the customer's booking page has a dark theme. |
| [Book buttons on Google, Instagram and Facebook](https://bookodile.com/compare/bookodile-vs-square-appointments#social-booking) | **No** — No Reserve with Google or Instagram integration. Your booking link goes in your Google profile, your bio or a post like any link. | **Yes** — Reserve with Google, an Instagram Book button and Facebook booking on every plan, in Square's eight countries. Reserve with Google bookings are auto-accepted and cannot include several services, prepayment or classes. [source](https://squareup.com/help/us/en/article/6567-reserve-with-google) |

### [Running the business](https://bookodile.com/compare/bookodile-vs-square-appointments#group-operations)

| | Bookodile | Square Appointments |
|---|---|---|
| [Calendar](https://bookodile.com/compare/bookodile-vs-square-appointments#calendar) | **Yes** — Day, week and month. Drag a booking to a new time or a different person, block out time, add a walk-in, filter by person or service. A visit with several services moves as one — dragged in the calendar, or from the booking dialog, which offers only the times that fit everyone in it. | **Partly** — Day, week, five-day and month views; one person, everyone combined or side by side; colour by person or service; personal events as blockers and a double-booking warning. Dragging a booking to a new time is not documented. [source](https://squareup.com/help/us/en/article/8442-set-up-calendar-view-filters-for-appointments) |
| [A native app for your team](https://bookodile.com/compare/bookodile-vs-square-appointments#staff-app) | **No** — No native app. The dashboard is a web app that installs to a phone's home screen and works there. | **Yes** — 'Square Appointments: Scheduler' on iOS and Android, and a bookings mode inside the Square Point of Sale app. [source](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/square-appointments-scheduler/id1023050786) |
| [Several locations in one account](https://bookodile.com/compare/bookodile-vs-square-appointments#multi-location) | **Yes** — Any number of locations in one account, each with its own team, hours, services and booking page, and a group dashboard that totals them. | **Yes** — On Plus and Premium; Free is one location. Each location pays the plan fee again — $49 or $149 a month in the US — and a resource can belong to only one of them. [source](https://squareup.com/us/en/appointments/pricing) |
| [Roles and permissions](https://bookodile.com/compare/bookodile-vs-square-appointments#roles-permissions) | **Yes** — Owner, Manager, Employee and Receptionist ready-made, or build a role and set each permission by hand — including whether someone sees only their own bookings, customers and figures. | **Partly** — Three ready-made sets — Service Provider sees their own calendar, Front Desk sees every calendar, Manager adds account settings. Custom permission sets need Plus in the US and Premium ('Advanced Access') on the UK, Irish, French, Spanish and Australian pages. [source](https://squareup.com/help/us/en/article/5350-create-staff-member-profiles-for-square-appointments) |
| [Reports](https://bookodile.com/compare/bookodile-vs-square-appointments#reports) | **Yes** — Revenue, bookings, average value and cancellation rate; twelve months charted; top services; team ranked by revenue; per location or across all. Forecasting and revenue split are included add-ons. | **Partly** — Sales and reconciliation reports on every plan, labour cost and team sales on Plus. The future bookings report, service cost tracking and the team performance report (retention, pre-booking and utilisation) are Premium on the pricing page, although the reporting article scopes the last one to Plus. Recurring appointments are left out of the metrics until they are paid or edited. [source](https://squareup.com/help/us/en/article/7904-square-appointments-reporting) |
| [A leaderboard for the team](https://bookodile.com/compare/bookodile-vs-square-appointments#team-leaderboard) | **Yes** — A monthly competition on bookings or revenue that the whole team sees, with a winner per category if you want one, results frozen and emailed on the 1st, and a Hall of fame. Revenue amounts stay hidden from the team unless you show them. An included add-on. | **Partly** — The Team Performance report shows client retention, pre-booking and schedule utilisation per team member, for the account owner or anyone given the reporting permission — which the default service provider and front desk roles do not have. Nothing is described as a ranking or a winner, and the report sits on Premium. [source](https://squareup.com/help/us/en/article/7904-square-appointments-reporting) |
| [Point of sale, stock and payroll](https://bookodile.com/compare/bookodile-vs-square-appointments#pos-inventory-payroll) | **No** — No point of sale, no stock, no payroll. A walk-in is a booking. | **Yes** — A free point-of-sale app with hardware sold separately, stock, gift cards and invoices. Payroll is its own product at $35 a month plus $6 per person paid, with commissions carried into the pay run. [source](https://squareup.com/us/en/appointments/pricing) |

## [Where Square Appointments is stronger](https://bookodile.com/compare/bookodile-vs-square-appointments#strengths)

- **[It takes the money, and it is a payments company first](https://bookodile.com/compare/bookodile-vs-square-appointments#strength-it-takes-the-money-and-it-is-a-payments-company-first)** — Square processes cards in person and online at the rates on its pricing page, and prepayment, a card held against a no-show, deposits, Apple Pay and Google Pay in the booking flow, invoices, gift cards and a full point of sale with hardware all run on it. Bookodile does not process payments; the payment-tracking add-on records what you were paid.
- **[Free with no staff limit — on price alone it usually wins](https://bookodile.com/compare/bookodile-vs-square-appointments#strength-free-with-no-staff-limit-on-price-alone-it-usually-wins)** — Square Free has no employee limit at one location, with the booking site, Google, Instagram and Facebook booking buttons and text and email reminders, and it costs nothing until you take a payment. Bookodile's free tier is one location with two active booking spots and 40 bookings a month; a larger team at one location is free on Square and paid on Bookodile. Compare the two bills for your headcount before anything else on this page.
- **[Customers reply to a text and the calendar updates](https://bookodile.com/compare/bookodile-vs-square-appointments#strength-customers-reply-to-a-text-and-the-calendar-updates)** — Square Assistant, on every plan, lets a customer answer the reminder text to confirm, cancel or reschedule, and the change lands in the calendar. Bookodile's text messages are built but not switched on; its reminders are email.
- **[The rest of the business in the same account](https://bookodile.com/compare/bookodile-vs-square-appointments#strength-the-rest-of-the-business-in-the-same-account)** — Email and text campaigns with automations, a loyalty programme, prepaid packages, payroll with commissions, stock, contracts with e-signature and a point of sale. Bookodile has none of these beyond an automated win-back sequence, promotions on the booking page and gift vouchers you issue yourself.
- **[Native apps, more channels and an API](https://bookodile.com/compare/bookodile-vs-square-appointments#strength-native-apps-more-channels-and-an-api)** — An iOS and Android app for the team, Reserve with Google, Instagram and Facebook booking, a consumer marketplace app in the United States, two-way Google Calendar sync and a Bookings API with webhooks. Bookodile's dashboard is a web app, its calendar sync is one way, it has no social booking integrations and no public API.
- **[A phone line](https://bookodile.com/compare/bookodile-vs-square-appointments#strength-a-phone-line)** — Chat and email on every plan, phone on weekdays, and 24/7 phone on Premium. Bookodile's support is by email.

## Notes for anyone selling Bookodile

These are the claims not to make against Square Appointments, because they are not true:

- Do not say Square's booking page has no dark mode. The dark mode Square shipped in August 2026 is for the team's app; the customer page is undocumented, which is not the same as absent.
- Do not say Square cannot put two services with two team members into one appointment. It can, on Plus and Premium. What its help centre does not say is whether they run back to back or how each person's time is blocked.
- Do not say Square charges a commission or a booking fee. It does not; the only transaction charge is the processing fee, and only when a payment is taken.
- Do not quote $29 and $69 for Square Plus and Premium in the United States. Those are the older prices, still printed on third-party pages; the US page says $49 and $149 per location. And do not quote US prices to a UK or Irish prospect — their pages show £29 and £69, and €19 and €49 plus VAT.
- Do not claim Bookodile is cheaper for a team at one location. Square Free has no staff limit; Bookodile's free tier has two active spots. Sell the capability, not the bill.
- Do not imply Bookodile takes card payments, deposits or no-show fees, or holds a card on file. Square does all four; Bookodile records payments.
- Do not say Square's resources have no capacity, that its calendar has no drag-and-drop, that it has no buffer before a service, or that a waitlisted customer cannot claim an opening. None of these is documented, which is not the same as absent.
- Do not repeat account holds, frozen funds, support wait times or removed features from review sites or the Seller Community as fact. They are complaints, not published behaviour.
- Do not quote a G2 rating for Square Appointments. It could not be verified on 2026-09-09.

## [Common questions](https://bookodile.com/compare/bookodile-vs-square-appointments#faq)

**[Is Square Appointments really free?](https://bookodile.com/compare/bookodile-vs-square-appointments#faq-is-square-appointments-really-free)**

Yes, at one location. Square Free has no limit on staff calendars and includes the booking site, Google, Instagram and Facebook booking buttons, text and email reminders and recurring appointments; the only charge is the processing fee when you take a payment — 2.6% + 15¢ in person and 3.3% + 30¢ online in the United States. Multi-staff booking, the waitlist, classes, buffer time, no-show fees and Google Calendar sync need Plus. Bookodile is also free, at one location with up to two active booking spots and 40 bookings a month, with every feature and add-on included.

**[Can I move my customers and bookings from Square?](https://bookodile.com/compare/bookodile-vs-square-appointments#faq-can-i-move-my-customers-and-bookings-from-square)**

Square exports appointment history as a CSV file, and its customer directory documents a spreadsheet import; check what the directory exports before you rely on it. Bookodile does not import either yet. Customers are created the first time they book, so the list rebuilds as regulars return, and your team can add anyone by hand. Run the two calendars side by side until Square's empties.

**[Does Bookodile take card payments, deposits or no-show fees like Square?](https://bookodile.com/compare/bookodile-vs-square-appointments#faq-does-bookodile-take-card-payments-deposits-or-no-show-fees-like-square)**

No. Bookodile does not process payments, hold a card on file or charge a no-show. Payment stays between you and your customer, however you take it today, and the payment-tracking add-on records what arrived. If you rely on Square's prepayment or no-show fees, you will need another way to do that.

**[Which languages can my customers book in?](https://bookodile.com/compare/bookodile-vs-square-appointments#faq-which-languages-can-my-customers-book-in)**

Square runs in English, French, Spanish, Catalan and Japanese, and sends notifications in the business's preferred language. Bookodile offers English, Slovak, Czech and Vietnamese, set per business and separately from the language you read your dashboard in.

**[What happens to Reserve with Google, my Instagram button and my Square Go listing?](https://bookodile.com/compare/bookodile-vs-square-appointments#faq-what-happens-to-reserve-with-google-my-instagram-button-and-my-square-go-listing)**

They are Square integrations and end with the Square account. Bookodile has no equivalent: your booking link goes into your Google Business profile, your Instagram bio or a post like any other link, and a QR code is generated for print. Square Go is a listing in the United States only; the customers who found you there will need the new link.

**[What does each cost for a team of three at one location?](https://bookodile.com/compare/bookodile-vs-square-appointments#faq-what-does-each-cost-for-a-team-of-three-at-one-location)**

On Square, three people at one location fit inside Free, and if you need multi-staff booking, the waitlist or no-show fees, Plus is $49 a month in the United States, £29 in the United Kingdom and €19 plus VAT in Ireland, for that one location. On Bookodile, three people each taking their own bookings are three booking spots, which is above the free tier; the figure for your country is on the pricing page, and two of them sharing one spot is two.

## Who Square Appointments is for

Square is a payments company, and Appointments is the booking product
inside its stack: the same account runs the card reader, the point of sale,
invoices, payroll and marketing. The pricing page pitches the tiers at solo
professionals, growing teams and larger businesses with complex staff
management, and the consumer app, Square Go, lists businesses Square
describes as beauty and personal care. An account can be opened in eight
countries — the United States, Canada, Australia, Japan, the United Kingdom,
Ireland, France and Spain — and cards are processed only from the country of
sign-up.

Bookodile is narrower on purpose. It is for a business where the people are
not interchangeable, where a room or a piece of equipment is the real
bottleneck, and where one visit can involve two people. It does not take
payments, and it runs anywhere, in English, Slovak, Czech or Vietnamese.
Those are the rows on this page where the two products differ most.

## The pricing model, in practice

Square charges per location, per month, and never per person: 'there is no
employee limit' on any tier. In the United States, Square Free is $0, Square
Plus is $49 and Square Premium is $149, each per location, with a custom
Square Pro for businesses processing over $250,000 a year. Free is one
location only. On Plus and Premium every extra location pays the plan fee
again, and each of the two carries a 30-day trial. Moving to these plans is
one-way — Square says you cannot switch back to a prior subscription.

Processing fees are the other half of the bill, and they apply on Free too:
in the United States 2.6% + 15¢ in person and 3.3% + 30¢ online, lower on
Plus and Premium. Each country publishes its own rates.

The regional pages have not moved to the US plans. On 2026-09-09 the United
Kingdom still sold Square Appointments Plus and Premium at £29 and £69 per
location, Ireland, France and Spain at €19 and €49 plus VAT, Canada at CA$35
and CA$85 and Australia at A$40 and A$90 — and third-party pages still print
the older US prices of $29 and $69. Read the page for your country.

Bookodile charges per location plus per booking spot that actually took a
booking that month. People who take no bookings are not counted, and five
people sharing one spot are one spot. The figures for your country are on
[the pricing page](/pricing) and the model is explained in
[What Bookodile costs](/docs/what-bookodile-costs).

Be honest with yourself about which is cheaper for you. A team of any size at
one location that wants what Square Free includes pays nothing on Square, and
may pay on Bookodile. The case for Bookodile is what the rows describe, not
the bill.

## Two services, two people

Square calls this multi-staff appointment booking, and it needs Plus or
Premium; on Free, staff can still build such an appointment by hand, but
customers cannot book one online. The switch is *Allow multiple staff to be
booked in a single appointment*, and Square describes the result as booking
'different services with different staff, in a single appointment'. On the
team's side each service is added to the appointment and its team member is
chosen per service; 'assigned services will show up on that staff member's
calendar', and a tip is split across the people in proportion to what each
service cost.

What the help centre does not say is whether the services are placed back to
back or at the same time, whether each person's calendar is blocked only for
their own service or for the whole visit, and whether the online flow shows a
separate team-member picker per service. Reserve with Google bookings cannot
contain more than one service at all. This page does not guess.

In Bookodile the same thing is a combo service: one service with one person
and a second with another, as stages of one booking. Each stage carries its
own team member, its own duration and its own room if it needs one, and each
person is blocked only for their stage. The customer books once and receives
one confirmation.

## Switching from Square Appointments

- **Customers.** Square's directory documents a spreadsheet import; its
export format is not confirmed on its pages, so check before you rely on
it. Bookodile has no import tool yet; customers are created the first time
they book, and your team can add anyone by hand.
- **Bookings.** Square exports appointment history as CSV. Bookodile does not
import bookings; run the two side by side until the Square calendar
empties out, then switch the link.
- **Your booking link.** Every place the old link lives — Google Business
profile, Instagram bio, your website, the Square Online site — gets the
new one. Bookodile generates a QR code for the counter.
- **Reserve with Google, Instagram, Facebook and Square Go.** These are
Square integrations; Bookodile has no equivalent. Your Google profile can
still carry the booking link as its website or appointment link.
- **Payments, cards on file, gift cards and packages.** These live in Square
and stay there. Square documents exporting cards on file to another
processor on request. Bookodile records payments; it does not take them,
and it has no packages — its gift vouchers are ones you issue.
- **Contracts.** Square's e-signed contracts have no counterpart; Bookodile
has a consent checkbox in your own wording.

## Where each one fits

Choose Square Appointments if you want card payments, deposits and no-show
fees inside the booking, a point of sale on the same account, a free plan
for a team of any size at one location, customers who confirm by replying to
a text, or a native app — and you are in one of its eight countries.

Choose Bookodile if your people are priced or timed differently, if a room
or a piece of equipment limits what you can take, if one visit can involve
two people, if your team needs to see the business's time zone rather than
their own, if your customers read Slovak, Czech or Vietnamese, or if Square
does not open accounts where you are.
