The leaderboard β€” a monthly competition for your team

How the Leaderboard add-on counts bookings and revenue, who competes, what the team can see, when the winners are announced, and every setting it has.

The Leaderboard is an add-on that turns each calendar month into a friendly competition between the people who take bookings. It is off until you switch it on, and like every add-on it is free and included.

Customers never see any of it. Nothing about the leaderboard appears on your booking page.

Switching it on

Switch it on in Settings β†’ Leaderboard. That one switch is the whole setup: it creates a competition called Most bookings β€” everyone who takes bookings, every service counting β€” and the race starts straight away.

It also works out your last twelve months from booking history, so the Hall of fame is not empty on day one. Those months are labelled "Worked out from booking history" and nobody is emailed about them. A month in which nobody scored (before you took bookings in Bookodile) is left out.

Switching it off hides the leaderboard and stops its email. The results are kept; switch it back on and they return. A month when it was off has no winner.

What counts as a booking

A visit counts once for each team member who did a service in it:

  • two services by the same person in one visit are one booking;
  • a service someone else did in that visit counts for them;
  • a visit counts once it has started β€” one booked for later in the month does not count yet;
  • cancelled visits and no-shows never count. A visit does not have to be marked as completed.

A service left out of a competition (see below) counts for nobody in that competition.

What counts as revenue

The price each person's services were booked for, after discount codes and vouchers β€” the same figure the Revenue Split report uses. It is booked value, not money received, and tips never count.

Who competes

Everyone whose role is listed as a service provider competes. A role with that switched off β€” a receptionist, typically β€” never competes, but can still open the leaderboard and receives the results email.

In Who competes you can switch any individual off to sit them out, for example an owner who works but would rather not be ranked. People who sit out keep their past titles.

Someone deactivated part-way through a month still competes for the month they worked in.

Competitions

A branch can run up to three competitions, and each crowns its own winner every month. Each one has:

  • Score by β€” Bookings or Revenue.
  • Who competes β€” everyone who takes bookings, or only some team member categories (categories like Junior and Senior, from Settings β†’ Members).
  • Ranking β€” with categories chosen: one ranking for all of them, or a winner per category, so people at different price levels never compete with each other.
  • What counts β€” every service counts unless you untick it, including services you add later.
  • Name β€” optional. Left empty, it shows the built-in name in each reader's own language.

Settings offers two starting points besides the default: Revenue, a winner per category, and Bookings for one category. Both need team member categories with at least two people who take bookings in each.

Changing a competition's rules re-scores the current month. Months that are already over keep their winners. Deleting a competition stops it from this month on; its past winners stay in the Hall of fame.

When the month closes

The month closes on the 1st at 10:00 in your business's time zone. The results are frozen at that moment and never recalculated.

  • Ties share first place. Level at the top, both people win.
  • Nobody scored, nobody wins.
  • Fewer than two people in a competition or a category means no ranking and no winner that month.

For the first three days of a new month, the leaderboard opens on the month that just closed, with the winners behind a single tap.

The results email

On the 1st, after the close, everyone at the branch gets an email with the winners of each competition, the runners-up and their own places β€” including team members who never sign in to Bookodile.

  • Each person can switch it off in Settings β†’ Notifications (Monthly results). The same switch is on the Leaderboard settings page.
  • Someone without a sign-in can use the stop link at the bottom of the email, which switches off the same setting and offers a way to undo it.
  • It arrives in the reader's own dashboard language when they have an account, otherwise in your business's language.
  • January's email also names each competition's champion of the year.
  • The owner can switch the email off for the whole branch with Email the results to the team. Pausing customer notifications for the business pauses this email too.

What the team can see

  • Booking counts are visible to everyone who can open the leaderboard.
  • Revenue amounts are hidden from the team by default: revenue competitions show who is ahead, not how much anyone took β€” and the bars go too, because bar lengths would give the amounts away. Each person always sees their own amount.
  • The owner, and anyone whose role can see all reports, always see everything.
  • Show revenue amounts to the team changes what is shown, so it applies straight away to every month, including past ones. Emails that were already sent stay as they were.

The Hall of fame

The Hall of fame tab adds up each month's winners, one competition at a time: the year's champion, a row of monthly winners (tap one to open that month), and who has the most titles.

The champion of the year is whoever won that competition most often in the calendar year. A tie on titles goes to the higher total score in that competition over the year; still level, the title is shared. A run of three or more titles in a row is marked.

Worked example

A barbershop has three senior barbers and two juniors who charge less for the same cut. It keeps Most bookings for everyone β€” a junior who fits in more clients can win outright β€” and adds Revenue, a winner per category, so the seniors compete with each other on revenue and the juniors do too. The owner works a chair but sits out.

A fitness studio with four trainers runs a single Most bookings competition, unticks the free introductory session so it doesn't count, and leaves revenue amounts hidden from the team. The trainers see who is closest to first place with a week to go; the email on the 1st names the winner.

Limits

  • Per branch. Each branch runs its own leaderboard; there is no ranking across branches.
  • Up to three competitions, scored on bookings or revenue only.
  • No adjustment for hours worked. Someone away for half the month competes on the same numbers as everyone else.
  • Revenue is booked value, not payments received, and tips never count.
  • History from before switching on uses today's rules and categories β€” the past has no record of what they were.
  • Frozen results are never recalculated, even if a booking from a closed month is edited later.
